Montgomery College Weight Loss and Carbohydrates Essay

SUMMARY & ANALYSIS

Write a 3-4 page paper (essay) summarizing your results and analyzing your current diet. You must use the report you generated and submitted in Part 1 of the project to complete this part of the assignment. At a minimum, you should address the following topics:

  1. (5 points) Which days did you complete the three-day recall? Explain why you chose these days.
  2. (5 points) Summarize the results from your three-day recall (Part I). Be specific. Identify the total number of calories, grams of fats (saturated/unsaturated), grams of carbohydrates (complex, simple, and fiber) and grams of protein. Identify amounts of important vitamins (vitamins A, D, E, B, and C) and minerals (calcium, iron, and sodium). Identify any other important information that will help you analyze your eating habits. (Do not list or include tables.)
  3. (10 points) Analyze your results. Did you meet the recommended requirements for each of the major nutrients? Identify any nutrients that you consumed in excess (too much) and identify any nutrients that you need to consume in greater quantity. Be specific.
  4. (5 points) Discuss how the results of your three-day recall compare to USDA’s “My Plate.” (Don’t forget to use your analysis printout from Part 1.) Be specific.
  5. (15 points) Discuss the health implications associated with your results. Be sure to explain how your current diet affects your personal health. (You will need to do some research and use in-text citations for this part of your paper.)
  6. (5 points) Explain how your dietary habits affect others (friends, family, and community).
  7. (10 points) Do you feel that your results from the three-day analysis present an accurate view of your normal dietary habits (what you eat on a daily, weekly and/or monthly basis)? Why/Why not? Explain your answer.
  8. (10 points) Identify and describe three strengths of your current eating habits AND three techniques you would like to use to improve your current habits. Give examples of how you could incorporate each technique into your daily routine. Be specific.
  9. (up to 5 points) This part of the project must be written in essay format and use APA Guidelines. For support, contact the Writing, Reading, and Language Center.
  10. Reminders:

  • You must submit Part I in order to earn credit for Part II of this project.
  • Part II must be written in essay format. The essay will be graded for spelling and grammatical errors.
  • Include both in-text citations and a citation page even if you are using your textbook as a reference. (This is VERY important to avoid plagiarism.)
