Final assignment question
Homework Final Assignment
The event planner and marketer Xinc has approached you to promote an event by means of a hard copy postcard. You have yet to learn about their preferences and their corporate culture, but you’re well aware of Xinc’s impressive reputation and hope to establish an ongoing relationship.
You decide to provide them with a selection of six (6) different postcard designs to choose from and demonstrate your creative potential.
Xinc is looking for a 6 X 8 inch postcard, whereby the orientation (portrait or landscape) is up to you. Create your six different designs for merely a single one (1) of the following events of your choice:
- a Students Activities event,
- a Runway Fashion Show,
- a Launch Party for a Shoe Design Product,
- an Opening Party, or Vernissage for a Gallery,
- a Community Service Volunteer Event.
As a professional, you understand the value of compiling sketches (Links to an external site.) and use notes to identify and develop your ideas (Links to an external site.). Therefore, you are to submit scans/photos of your sketches and notes.
In order to use Illustrator and Photoshop about equally for the layout process, you’ll create:
- two postcards that focus primarily on the distinctive effects of Photoshop,
- two that focus primarily on the distinctive effects Illustrator and
- the remaining two that blend the two programs.
You’ll need to source images from Google Images, Unsplash, and similar websites to build the postcards from and submit with your final. You may also use your own image. Before embedding them into their host documents — embed them, do not merely link them — you’ll need to process them in Photoshop according to your creative vision and save them as Smart Objects at a resolution of 144 ppi.
Each of the six postcards is to contain the following:
- Xinc logo
- Event Title, Place, time
- An image or graphic
Each of the items should be contained in one or more of the six postcards:
- A foreground image of a person, a model or a product 2 to six inches tall (At least 4 cards should contain one of the images)
- Two or more additional images:
- One image is to be saved as .psd with a layer mask,
- The other image(s) is/are to be saved as JPGs (remember a jpg file is flattened and contains no layers)
At least two of the Illustrator postcards include a drawn graphic created with the Pen tool, the Pencil tool or the Blob brush, including the Shapebuilder or the Pathfinder tool. Feel free to use an image as a guide.
Further, include:
- a Clipping Mask (Illustrator only),
- a Layer Mask (Photoshop only),
- a custom-created Gradient, saved to the Swatches panel and labeled with your initials,
- a custom-created color group of 4 or more color swatches, saved to the Swatches panel and labeled with your initials,
The elements and components of each postcard are to be placed on separate, accurately labeled layers that are stacked in the correct order; empty layers are to be deleted.
Type – DO NOT STRETCH- DO NOT OUTLINE- Choose 2-4 fonts to use across all pieces.
- Point type (for individual letters, words or short lines)
- Area type (for paragraphs)
- Type on path (optional)
- Create outlines on Logo (XINC). Make desired changes to lines or shapes to complete logo. Use on each piece.
All type is to follow Type Protocol as practiced throughout the course and outlined on pages 2Ps.3 Type Tool for Photoshop and 2Ai.4 Type Tool for Illustrator.
Finally, save a copy of each postcard as a PDF and compile all six into a single PDF binder. Submit with the six host documents, the scans/photos of sketches and notes and all image assets (processed images used in your postcards — .eps, .psd and .jpg) in a compressed/Zipped folder as described at the bottom of .1Ai.8 File Management .ai. Remember, you have the option of submitting the URL where this folder resides in your cloud storage.
