History oh Human rights in Canada

1. When does the history of human rights in Canada begin? Make a case for a specific year
and defend it with examples and references.
2.Compare how the Royal Proclamation of 1763 and the Indian Act depict relations between
Indigenous peoples and the Crown/Canadian Federal Government. What similarities and
differences do you see?

5. The idea of “deserving and undeserving poor” has been influential in the development and
evolution of social assistance programs in Canada. Provide a brief overview of the history
and legacy of this idea. Is this idea compatible with a human rights-based approach?

7. “Social change is more significant than scientific change with respect to evolving ways of thinking about human rights.” Discuss the strengths, weaknesses and controversies of this statement with specific reference to at least two of the following issues: forced sterilization, medically assisted death, assisted reproduction (including IVF and surrogacy). Be sure to include key historical events and legal changes.
