Jeff Response.
WRITING STYLE FOR THIS PAPER WILL BE MLA. PLEASE MAKE SURE TO CITE YOUR WORK IN MLA WHETHERE IT IS IN-TEXT OR A REFRENCE CITATION.
RESPONSE FORM
Your responses for the essay you read this semester from A World of Ideas should adhere to the following outline while citing your source with the appropriate documentation (MLA)
1. Thesis of essay (1 -2 sentences )
2.Summary of essay: interduce the author of the essay (Jefferson) and summarize the essay.
approximately one third to one half page; you may include a brief quote or two to present your summary, but too many quotes will cause it to cease being a summary.
3. Personal response:
your personal response should show your personal ideas and thoughts only. Also, your personal response should include one paraphrase and two quotes from the essay. When citing in-text, you should cite the author of the essay not the author of the book.
don’t forget to support/illustrate what you say here with an example or two from the essay—paraphrasing and perhaps quoting; otherwise, you may discuss anything that strikes you about the ideas of the essay (if the writing strikes you, you may make a comment about it but save the analysis of the writing for the rhetorical analysis section).
4. Analysis of Rhetorical Techniques:
In this section, you may find a technique that the author (Jefferson) used and discuss whether it is effective or not.
definitely have to use examples—QUOTES—to illustrate and support what you say; you will be discussing how the essay is actually written (further discussion on what this entails will be coming soon!).
5. Your response should have a Work Cited/Reference/Bibliography page in MLA style.
Note : Somewhere within your personal response you should include a paraphrase (remember paraphrases are used for short passages of writing —2-3 sentences up to a paragraph —or else it will be too long and need to be a summary). Boldface your paraphrase(s) on your response. You may also use quotes within your personal response.
Of course, all of this should be typed (approximately 2-3 body pages; at least 750 words —not counting the Work Cited/Reference/Bibliography page ), written in the following format/order for clarity of reading and checking/grading of the handling of each part of the response and the documentation form :
