School counselors ensure children receive the emotional support they need in the classroom in order to succeed academically from day to day and in the future. While one can never predict what will happen on any given day in a school counseling office, there are things that start to become routine in the role of a school counselor.
Part 1:
Observe the daily duties of your clinical site supervisor and create a detailed list or overview of the duties performed each day during the week. Compare the daily duties with the ASCA National Model.
Part 2:
Write a 500-750 word summary of how your clinical site supervisor’s duties align with the ASCA National Model and include the following:
- If there were daily duties that did not align with the ASCA National Model, what were they?
- Were there duties or responsibilities that were continuously repeated? Provide examples.
- Describe the multiple roles and responsibilities of the school counselor and how he or she collaborates with students, families, staff, and administration.
- How is the “Professional Dispositions of Learners” incorporated into the daily implementation of the school counseling program at your practicum site?
